..is a walled city. You can see its wall on the map on the right. Most of the wall is still intact and there is a footpath on the wall, so if you wish, you can walk around the centre of York.

Us living in Nijmegen envie the Yorks, as our wall around the city did not live up to this day. These days we do have a tower, a donjon. But it is being made of scaffolding pipe and cloth. Somehow it is not as good as the real thing.

And York has plenty of it. Of course the cathedral, the York Minster is superb, but so are the shambles, the medieval part of the centre where the streets are so narrow, you can strech your arms and touch a house with each hand.
